Cardio exercise has additionally been linked to neuro-genesis a.k.a. “new brain cell growth” which is thought to elevate mood and help relieve symptoms associated with many mood disorders.

At The River, we offer daily fitness therapy to help restore mental clarity, reclaim your physical strength and relieve stress in a positive and healthy manner. This is not a cookie cutter approach to fitness. You will work directly with our medical staff and physical therapist as well as our highly skilled personal trainer who is one of the most experienced coaches in the business with over 20 years of working with people with addictions. No matter what your fitness level is, we will be able to work with you to develop a fitness regimen that supports your recovery and overall general health and well-being.

Mountain Biking

One hour mountain bike tours are one of the most popular activities that we do at The River. Supervised and guided by experienced personal trainers, small groups are led through some of Thailand’s most beautiful rice paddy fields, quaint villages and scenic areas in Chiang Mai.

We offer a combination of endurance therapy combined with the mental benefits of fresh air and beautiful landscape scenery. Mountain biking is an ideal fitness therapy because it builds leg strength, optimizes fat burning and works the cardiovascular system. 

Mixed Martial Arts & Muay Thai

At the River we offer limited Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai classes as an optional cardio fitness therapy that helps you get into shape, build strength and lose weight. This uses therapy techniques such as pushups, sit ups, jumping rope, shadow boxing, heavy bag, and free weight boxing to build strength and endurance in the body and martial art techniques to help control the body and mind. This is a good way to gain a sense of self-control and empowerment and build character and inner strength.
